Calka, Hollinger-Janzen Compete at Stanford Invite

The freshman and sophomore ran in the 1,500 and 10k, respectively

STANFORD, Calif. (EMUEagles.com)—
Two members of the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team competed on in the prestigious Stanford University Invitational Friday, March 26. The meet is billed one of the biggest outdoor meets annually and attracts the best national talent on a consistent basis.

 

Freshman runner Courtney Calka (Livonia, Mich.-Stevenson) showed why she is considered one of the best young prospects in the nation as she finished ninth in her heat in the 1,500-meter run, posting a time of 4:35.12.

 

Rachel Hollinger-Janzen (Goshen, Ind.-Goshen) also competed in the 10,000-meter run as she crossed the finish line in 36:39.31. She finished 30th in the run's second heat.

 

Day two of the event will get under way today, March 27, shortly after 12 p.m. EST. Today's events include the 4x400-meter relay and the pole vault.
