Hanna, Landrum Set Pace for Titan Men in Outdoor Opener

Junior Lesley Hanna (Exuma, Bahamas/Coakley) and sophomore Vushaun Landrum (Windsor, ON/Sandwich Secondary) each recorded a pair of top-5 finishes as the University of Detoit Mercy men's track and field squad opened up their 2010 outdoor season at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in Cincinnati, OH.

The Detroit men notched an eighth-place finish out of 16 teams in the scored meet, putting up 36 points on the day. Host Cincinnati claimed the team title with 146 points.

Landrum and Hanna finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 200 meter dash. Landrum recorded a new personal best by the slimmest of margins, lowering his previous PR by .01 seconds to 21.75 seconds, while Hanna clocked a time 22.00 seconds. Landrum also took fourth place in the 100 meter dash where finished in 10.85 seconds. Hanna notched a second-place finish in the 400 meters, winning his heat in a time 49.45 seconds.

Landrum also competed in the long jump, where he just missed out on scoring for the Titans, placing ninth with a mark of 21 feet.

Junior Kevin Smalley (Gladwin, MI/Gladwin) was fifth across the line in 3,000 meter steeplechase, running to a new PR of 9:56.02, despite having to contest with a light rain. Junior Pat Liederbach (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) also recorded a fifth-place finish, running a time of 3:55.91 in the 1500 meter run.

Senior Alex Gould (Comstock Park, MI/Comstock Park) completed two laps around the track in a time of 1:56.63, good for seventh place in the 800 meter run, and freshman Vincent Lefler (Midland, MI/Midland) made his collegiate debut in the 400 meter hurdles, placing eighth in 56.74 seconds.

The Titans will be busy from here on out, competing every weekend between now and May 15. Next up, the Titans will travel to Lewisburg, PA, for Friday and Saturday, April 9-10, competing at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
