KALAMAZOO, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Dominating performances on the track helped the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team roll over the Chippewas of Central Michigan University, Saturday, April 3, in Kalamazoo, Mich.
In the outdoor season opener, the Eagles finished 1-2-3 in the 100-, 200-, 400-, 800-, 110 hurdles and 1,500-meter races, and 1-2 in the 400-meter hurdles. Also, Eastern took the 2,000-meter steeplechase and 4x100- and 4x400-meter hurdles to complete the sweep of all 10 races.
Danny Ngo started the day off by finishing the 100-meter dash in 11.3 seconds. Nathan Cornett, BJ Hill, and Ian McGee would be the next three across the finish line as Eastern swept the event. The 200 and 400 followed, with Hill winning the 200 and Jarius Saunders crossing the line first in the 400 with a mark of 53.71.
Daniel Collins would finish nearly six seconds ahead of second-place (teammate Joey White) in the 400-meter hurdles as he claimed victory with a time of 57.60.
The Eagles also performed well in the field, winning three of the eight events and finishing second in another four.
The tandem of Andrew Meyer and Gerald Gersham continued to dominate the shot put as they finished first and second, respectively. Meyer had a throw of 51-01.75, while Gersham tossed the apparatus 50-01.25.
Gregor Harzor had an outstanding day as well, as he won the 110-meter hurdles and the javelin throw by posting a mark of 153-04.
Other top finishers in the field were Anthony Bradley and his 37-09.25, first-place triple jump, Xavier Clais in the high jump, and David Simor was second in both the long jump and triple jump.
“The weather conditions of cold, hard rain and wind made for very difficult competitive conditions, but this afforded the team a lesson in overcoming adversity,” said Interim Head Coach John Goodridge.
The Eagles will be in competition again Friday and Saturday, April 9-10, at the Tennessee Sea Relays in Knoxville, Tenn.
