CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – A total of 43 Mid-American Conference student-athletes were named to the 2010 Academic All-MAC Indoor Track and Field men's and women's teams as voted by the league's faculty athletic representatives.
The 43 members reflect the same number of all-conference selections or one-third of the nominees, whichever is greater. In total, there were 28 women selected for the team, and 15 men honorees.
Eastern Michigan University led the conference with four selections on the men's side. Senior business administration and management (MBA) major Xavier Clais (4.00 GPA), senior international business major Oliver Walther (3.90 GPA), junior physical education major Andrew Meyer (3.70 GPA) and sophomore business major Austin Hendrix (3.59 GPA) were the four members selected to the squad. Walther was also honored earlier this season when he was the recipient of the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week Award.
There were no women selected on the women's side for EMU.
Akron had five women on the squad, followed closely by Central Michigan with four. Toledo and Western Michigan placed three on the list while Miami and Ohio each have two. Rounding out the women's side are Ball State, Buffalo and Northern Illinois with one each.
For the men, Akron, Buffalo and Kent State follow closely behind EMU with three honorees each while Central Michigan placed two.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments for the current season only are considered.
