YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team successfully battled the elements as well as competitors from nearly a dozen other schools in the first day of the EMU Twilight Invitational, Friday, April 16, at Olds/Marshall Track in Rynearson Stadium.
Three pair of one-two finishes highlighted the Eagles first day. Lauren Quaintance and Courtney Calka finished first and second, respectively, in the 1,500-meter run after Quaintance made an all-out sprint to the finish with less than 200 meters remaining. The teammates crossed the finish line less than three-quarters of a second apart from one another.
In the long jump, it was Margaret White and Ervanlie Bazile who took the top two honors. White won with a jump of 18-05.00, while Bazile was not far behind, leaping 18-00.50. The 400-meter hurdles were taken by freshman Asia Rawls with a time of 1:10.27, while Frederike Schoenfeld was second with a time of 1:04.71.
Day two of the EMU Twilight will get underway Saturday, April 17, with throwing events starting at 10 a.m. and running events beginning at noon.
