Liederbach Clocks Sixth Career Sub-14:40 5,000m at Penn Relays

Schedule of Detroit Events at Penn Relays

Complete Penn Relays Schedule and Results

UDM junior Pat Liederbach (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey), the only Titan runner ever to run sub-14:40 for 5,000 meters on the track, did so for the sixth time at the Penn Relays distance carnival on Thursday night at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

A short storm prior to the start of the distance events made the night perfect for going long, but Liederbach had to contend with a slow early pace and a crowded track of over 50 runners. Liederbach, who holds the school record in the event, still managed to run a strong race and finished 15th in his section in a time of 14:38.88, his best of the season by over 20 seconds. The time is also the fourth fastest in the Horizon League this spring.

The 5,000 meter run capped off the Titans' first day of action at the Penn Relays, but Detroit will be on the track in force Friday, with five relay teams in action. UDM will compete Friday in the men's 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and the sprint and distance medley relays. Liederbach will return to action along with senior Alex Gould (Comstock Park, MI/Comstock Park), junior Lesley Hanna (Exuma, Bahamas/Coakley) and junior Matt Mahler (Thorold, ON/Denis Morris Catholic) for the Distance Medley Championship of America at 4:00 p.m.
