Horne Shows Off Hammer Skills At Oregon

OregonTwilight Results

Senior Brittany Horne (Okemos, MI/Okemos) took her Horizon League hammer crown out West as the Titan competed in front of 6,100 fans on Saturday at the annual Oregon Twilight in historic Hayward Stadium.

The facility, which will be the site of the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, has also hosted such events as the USATF Championships, multiple US Track and Field Olympic Trials and will be the future host of the 2011 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Horne took fifth in the event with a throw of 56.76m, a mark achieved on her fifth throw. The event was won by 2008 US Olympian Loree Smith with a heave of 65.86m.

"Brittany did a nice job when she wasn't at her best," said head coach Guy Murray. “Sometimes you have to battle and she did. It has been an amazing year for her and to be disappointed with a 186' day tells how far she has progressed. Now it's time to focus for the NCAA prelim's and get in top 12 to get back to Oregon.”

Horne, the HL Outstanding Field Event Performer who won the discus (44.40m) and the hammer (61.30m) at the conference championships, the latter in a personal and league record performance, will now get ready for the NCAA Division I Championship Preliminary Round, held at North Carolina A&T on May 27-29.
