Cleveland, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Mid-American Conference announced late Thursday evening that two Eagles, sophomore sprinters Kevin Lanier (White Lake, Mich.-Lakeland) and ReJeana Marigna (Beverly, N.J.-Burlington County Institute of Technology), were named MAC Male and Female Track Athletes of the Week for the week of May 7.
Lanier sprinted to a win in the 400-meter hurdles and a second place finish in the 110-meter hurdles on May 7-8, as the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team took a short trip down the road to Ann Arbor, Mich. for the Paddock Invitational, a final tune-up before this weekend's MAC Championship. Lanier's 110-meter hurdle time was the third-best in the MAC this year, while his time in the 400-hurdles ranked in the top-10 fastest times.
Marigna also had a stellar performance at the Paddock Invites. She posted a Mid-American Conference season-best time of 11.50 in the 100-meter dash. The mark was not only a MAC best this year, but it also set a new personal best for the sophomore. She followed up her 100-meter dash with an outstanding performance as the second leg in the 4x100-meter race, which the Eagles also won. After falling behind by a slim margin after the lead-off leg, Marigna regained the squad's composure and handed the baton off to the third leg with a slim lead before the Eagles would go on to victory.
The MAC Athlete of the Week award is a first for both athletes.
