The NCAA Track & Field Preliminary Rounds begin today and fans can catch junior Lesley Hanna live at 6:30 p.m., as he competes in the first round of the 400-meters on the Irwin Bell Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University in the East Regional.

Hanna, who is making his first career appearance in a NCAA post-season event, will run against some of the best talent not only on the collegiate level, but in the world as the 400m will showcase three of the top five world times holders. Also in the event is the current world top 400m runner in Calvin Smith of Florida (44.81) as well as Tavaris Tate (44.86) of Mississippi State and Kirani James (45.81) of Alabama, who are third and fifth, respectively, according to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

Hanna will run in heat six along with Charles Green of Northwestern State, Tony McQuay of Florida, Eastern Michigan's Ackeem Forde, Ohio State's Thomas Murdaugh, Kevin Anding of Virginia, Jarrell Elliott of host North Carolina A&T and Morgan State's Kevin Bowen. McQuay is currently seventh in the NCAA in the 400m with a time of 45.37, while Murdaugh is 17th with his best time of 45.96.

Hanna currently stands 49th in the East Region, and 96th in the nation, with a career best time of 47.16, posted at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The top three from each of the six heats plus the next six fastest times will advance to the quarter-finals tomorrow.
