Horne Named Co-Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year

The accolades keep rolling in for the graduated Brittany Horne (Okemos, MI/Okemos) as she was named the 2010 Horizon League Co-Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year, announced the conference office today.

It is the first time in school history that a Titan has won the yearly honor as she shares the award with Wright State's Cassandra Lloyd.

Horne ended her senior season as the Team MVP in both indoor and outdoor, but it was in the spring where she etched her name in the record books. At the outdoor league meet, Horne set a new conference hammer standard with a 61.30m/201' 1” mark, while also winning the discus with a toss of 44.04m/144' 6”. Both victories earned her first team All-Horizon League honors and she was tabbed the HL Outstanding Field Event Performer. She went on to represent Detroit and the league at the NCAA Preliminary Round Championships East Region, where she finished 14th with a throw of 56.12m/184'1”.

During the season, Horne became the first Titan in school history to win an event at the prestigious Penn Relays, taking first in the Championship of America hammer throw with a 56.92m/186'8" heave. The Titan thrower also won the discus, hammer and shot put at the 5th Annual Detroit-Oakland Dual and the hammer at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational, while taking fifth in the hammer at the well-known Oregon Twilight.

Horne leaves UDM as the school's record holder in the hammer and top five in the discus, shot put and weight.
