Nelkie Joins Men’s Cross Country Team

Director of Cross Country & Track and Field Guy Murray announced today that Martin Nelkie (West Branch, MI/Ogemaw Heights) has signed a National Letter of Intent to run cross country and track for the Titans.

Nelkie had an impressive ending to his prep career, earning All-State accolades by taking 10th in the Division 2 state championship as a senior after placing 42nd in his junior campaign. In track, he won back-to-back regional championships in the 3200-meters and was seventh at the state meet.

“Martin is suited to the longer collegiate races and will definitely challenge the veterans for a varsity spot this fall,” said Murray. “He and Sam (Felton) give us a very strong group."

He is the second heralded freshman to sign with the Titans following Sam Felton (St. Joseph, MI/St. Joseph), an All-State performer and three-time Division 2 cross country qualifier, who signed with UDM back in February.

With the two additions, the Titans return a talented squad in 2010, including five of their top seven from last season's Horizon League championship scoring team.
