Titans Welcome Seven More To Track & Field

The Titan women's track roster expanded by seven today as head coach Guy Murray announced that Stephanie Blanchard (Port Hope, MI/Harbor Beach), Stephanie Cuniberti (Macomb, MI/Dakota), Brandee Hart (Oak Park, MI/Berkley), Allyson Koglin (Port Hope, MI/Port Hope), Nicole Meisner (Huntington Woods, MI/Berkley), Anne Press (Harrison Township, MI/L'Anse Creuse) and Kayla Zauner (Fort Gratiot, MI/Port Huron Northern) will all suit up for Detroit starting in the 2010-11 season.

All seven enter UDM as freshmen and with impressive high school credentials.

“This group has a little bit of everything to help fill out the roster, but there is a lot of potential here that can develop into HL scorers,” noted Murray. “We are going to be very, very young next year so it is a great opportunity for them to all step in and contribute immediately.”

Blanchard was a Division 4 state qualifier in the shot put and discus to end her prep career, which included a sixth-place finish in the discus as a junior. Koglin, also competing in Division 4, was runner-up in the discus as a junior and eighth in the shot put, while also taking fourth in the shot put and fifth in the discus in her senior campaign. Press rounds out the throwing contingent of the signees as a D1 regional scorer in the discus in 2009 and 2010.

“Stephanie, Allyson and Anne have the tough job of filling Brittany Horne's big shoes and continuing our great throwing tradition,” said Murray. “All three are talented and we will focus on developing in year one in hopes of matching Brittany's progress.”

Cuniberti was a regional champion in the high jump as a sophomore and a Division 1 state qualifier in 2008 and 2010, while Hart made the state championships in the 100 hurdles as a senior and the 300 in her last two seasons. Meisner was a regional scorer on relays and represented the United States at the JCC Maccabi Games winning nine gold medals in 2008. Zauner will help boost the pole vault unit as she was a three time regional scorer and a D1 state qualifier.

“Stephanie has been consistent at 5'2” which should put her in a position to score at the conference championships,” Murray said. “Brandee had a great season and will help immediately in the sprint hurdles and will be right there in the IM hurdles, while Nicole and Kayla will contend for spots in their respective events.”
