Men’s Track & Field Bolsters Roster

The UDM men's track and field squad already returns a number of key upperclassmen and now head coach Guy Murray announced that five newcomers will join the Titans for the upcoming season in Charles Anthony (Northville, MI/Farmington), Bryan Brooks (Port Huron, MI /Port Huron Northern), Floyd Hoskin (Gary, IN/Bowman Academy), Eric Lewis (Eastpointe, MI/Fraser) and Jeffrey Sherman (New Hudson, MI/Catholic Central).

“I am excited for this class as we only lost two due to graduation and this group has the potential to contribute immediately,” said Murray.

Anthony, a four-time All-State sprinter who earned the Dr. Zae Aschenbrenner Award as Farmington's top senior athlete, was a regional champion in the 100-meters and on the 4x100-meter relay. He also claimed fifth in the 100m, third in the 4x100 and sixth on the 4x200m as a senior at the Division I state championships. Brooks was a state qualifier as a senior in the 110-meter hurdles, while Hoskin was an Indiana long jump qualifier as a junior and senior. He also played for the 2010 Class A state basketball champion team.

“Charles will fit in well with the sprint group and should step in to replace Sam Jones' 4x100m spot,” said Murray. “Bryan will bolster the young hurdle group and Floyd is a good athlete who will give Ja'Quan (Patterson) some company tackling the horizontal jumps.”

The Titan throwing unit will see the addition of two throwers. Lewis took third in the discus and was a shot put state qualifier at the Division 3 championships in 2010. Sherman, a member of the school's Division 1 state championship football team, earned back-to-back state qualifying marks in the shot put in 2009 and 2010.

“We filled a hole in the line-up with Eric and Jeff,” noted Murray. “Eric improved a lot in the last year and Jeff has only thrown for two years, but both have a lot of talent. If they can adjust to the college implements, they will have some good HL scoring opportunities.”

The men return all four of their All-Horizon League performers from a year ago and a number of letterwinners that helped the team place fourth in the indoor league meet and fifth at the Horizon League outdoor championships.
