Michigan's middle school outdoor season got underway this month, with several young athletes posting strong early marks. Check out who has made an early impact at the start of the season.
Boys
LawtonAaron Anderson, the eighth grader out of Lawton, leads all Michigan middle school sprinters in both the 100m and 200m. Anderson has already recorded marks of 11.15 in the 100m and 23.00 in the half lap, both set at the Elgin JH Owl Classic.
Just a sixth grader, Symir Wearing of Lawton ran the 400m in 1:07.88 to finish second at the Alex Elm/JH Invitational.
Wearing's sixth-grade classmate Kordell McDonald has thrown the shot put 30-0.00 to open up the season, finishing 4th at the Alex Elm/JH Invitational.
Lawton's Azion Ambrose recorded a 17-5.00 mark in the long jump. The eighth grader is off a strong start to his season, finishing 4th at the Elgin JH Owl Classic.
AJ Daniels recorded a 2:28.08 in the half mile. The Lawton eighth grader finished 8th at the Elgin JH Owl Classic.
Girls
Ahlaisha Ramey and Huling Makenzie, class of 2030 teammates out of Lawton, both leapt 14-3 in the long jump. The pair split a 4th-place finish and currently lead the middle school state ranks in the early season.
Faith Schipper out of Holland Calvary recorded a 2:39.28 800m this past weekend. The eighth grader finished 13th overall at the GVSU Laker Challenge-Boys/Girls Small School meet, and leads the way for Michigan middle schoolers in the 2-lap race.
Another pair of Lawton teammates find themselves at the top of the early season leaderboard, this time in the 100m. Eighth grader Lylii Osborn ran a 12.85 while her younger teammate, McBroom Mya, ran 13.36 to go first and second at the Elgin JH Owl Classic
Lawton's Blake Pierson, a sixth grader, recorded a leading time of 1:13.87 in the 400m, finishing second overall at the Alex Elm/JH Invitational.
