Women's Cross Country Set For Michigan Open

The Eagles will kick off the 2010 season

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team officially begins action tomorrow as the Eagles head to Dexter, Mich. for the 5,000-meter Michigan Open Friday, Sept. 3, at 4 p.m.

The Eagles return 13 runners from last year's squad, including Courtney Calka (Livonia, Mich. – Stevenson), Morgan Churchwell (Ada, Mich.-Forest Hills Central), Cassie Coffman (Chelsea, Mich. – Chelsea), Beverly Elcock (Fort Wayne, Ind.-Northrop), Christina Farrow (Rochester Hills, Mich. – Renaissance), Rachel Hollinger-Janzen (Goshen, Ind.-Goshen), Amber Hutson (Jerome, Mich.-Hanover Horton), Tiffany Kincaid (Clarkston, Mich. – Clarkston), Lauren Lunsford (Miamisburg, Ohio – Miamisburg), Lauren Quaintance (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern), Rachel Quaintance (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern), Natalie Webb (Allen Park, Mich.-Woodhaven), and Beth Zimpfer (Maplewood, Ohio – Jackson Center).

EMU Head Coach Sue Parks, now in her fifth season, adds two to the 2010 roster with Kaitlin Fenech (Dearborn, Mich. – Divine Child) and Brooke Sciullo (Dublin, Ohio – Dublin Coffman).

The Eagles improved to sixth overall at the Mid-American Conference Championship last season. This marked the program's best finish since the 2000 season (third place). The Green and White then placed 16th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.

After competing in the Michigan Open, the Eagles will head to Three Rivers, Mich. for the George Dales Invitational Friday, Sept. 17. The event is slated for a 4:30 p.m. start.
