Three Titans finished in the top 20 as the red, white and blue hosted the 24th Annual Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invitational on a beautiful Saturday morning out at Cass Benton Park in Northville.

Sophomore Alexandria Vintevoghel (Casco, MI/Marine City) led the way taking 10th in a time of 19:43, three seconds faster than her rookie run last year.

Sophomore Katrina Oberski (Clyde, MI/Port Huron) set a personal record taking 14th with a run of 19:57, a 29-second improvement from last year as well as topping her career 5k mark by 12 seconds.

“We weren't at full strength, but we did a nice job competing,” said head coach Guy Murray. “Alexandria is running well and giving us the front runner we need, and Katrina is off to just a great start this year.”

Freshman Rachel Hofsess (Milford, MI/Milford) turned in a 20:51 effort to place 22nd, while sophomore Sarah Martinez (Grand Blanc, MI/Flint Powers) posted a time of 21:06, good for 25th. Taking part in her first Running-Fit-Detroit Titan race, senior Megan Miller (Zanesville, OH/Zanesville) scored for UDM at No. 5 claiming 26th overall with a career-best 21:20.

“A great run for Megan,” said Murray. “She made up for our missing people with her best cross country run.”

On the day, Detroit placed fourth with 91 points, just one point behind third place Macomb Community College. Wayne State won the event collecting 30 points, while Angela Matthews from Front Line Racing won the overall race in 18:13.

The event began with the running of two open races featuring high school and junior high teams along with open competitors. A special 1.5 mile middle school race was added this year and the annual Tommy Titan Future Legends Kid's Race was as big as it has ever been. The latter race featured kids nine and under in attendance to get in on the action racing Tommy Titan up the final hill of the course.

Detroit will have a short week before its next action as the Titans head to Notre Dame on Friday for the running of the National Catholic Championships.
