Goodridge Announces Incoming Class

EMU adds nine for 2010

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University Men's Cross Country Head Coach John Goodridge announced the signing of nine athletes who have joined the 2010 squad. Goodridge is excited about his new additions.

Joining the Eagles are Kenneth Cooper (Clinton, Mich.-Clinton), Harry Dixon (Nelson, New Zealand-Nayland College), Daniel Egner (Novi, Mich.-Novi), Ian Hancke (Haslett, Mich.-Haslett), Lyle Kafer (Hillsdale, Mich.-Hillsdale), Grzegorz Kalinowski (Gostkowo, Poland-Nicolaus Copernicus), Drew Sanseverino (Monroe, Mich.-Monroe), Daryl Smith (Windsor, Ontario-Vincent St. Mary's S.S.), and Warren Witchell (Williamster, Mich.-Dansville).

"These individuals have the potential to challenge for Varsity positions immediately,” Goodridge stated. “Dixon has won three New Zealand National titles, including a New Zealand Secondary Schools National Cross Country Championship. Smith has represented Canada the past two years in a row in the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Junior Cross Country Championships, while transfer Kalinowski placed sixth in the Polish National Short Course Cross Country Championships. Hancke placed 12th in the Michigan Division 2 State Cross Country Championships.”

Freshman Drew Sanseverino will be also be joining the squad along side his brother, Cole Sanseverino.

The Eagles recently took first place at the Running Fit Detroit Titan Invite on Sept. 11. Sophomore James Hughes (Manchester, Mich.-Manchester) led the way, as he was the first to cross the finish line at 20:25.0. EMU will return to action Saturday, Sept. 25 at the Western Ontario Invitational. The event is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.
