Boys
Holland Christian's Zach Diller started his high school season with an impressive 2-lap opener. The freshman took the South Christian at Holland Christian Meet 800m title in a time of 2:04.08 last week, to cement himself as the top freshman half miler at this point in the season.
Josh Scharich is another freshman who has immediately adjusted to the high school level. Competing for St. Joseph's, Scharich finished second in the 400m at the Portage Northern at St. Joseph's in a time of 51.93. Scharich currently leads all of Michigan's underclassmen in the event.
Girls
The sophomore from St. Joseph's, Trenyse McGinnis, had a productive opening weekend. During the Portage Northern at St. Joseph's meet, McGinnis clocked a 25.04 in the 200m to take the victory, followed by a second-place finish in the 100m in a time of 12.54.
Callie Hankamp, a sophomore competing for Coopersville, achieved her first win of the season. In Hankamp's opener at the Tri Meet (SL, Rav, Coop), she threw the discus 113-7.00 to take the title, and is now the Michigan leader in the discus for underclassmen.
