Eagles Ready For Adidas Invite

EMU will head to Madison, Wisc. for the 20-team Adidas Invitational

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team will head to Madison, Wisc. to compete in the Adidas Invitational this Saturday, Oct. 2.

The invite will feature a 20-team field, including some of the nations top-ranked programs. Head Coach Sue Parks is excited to see her squad compete with some of the country's best.

“This is a national level meet with at least 5-6 top-30 ranked teams,” said Parks. “We're excited to test ourselves against a top field like this. It will be a tough challenge for us, but we know that competing against quality teams will help us down the road.”

The Eagles look to build upon the success they have had so far in 2010. They recently won the George Dales Invitational on Sept. 17, placing three runners in the top five. That included sophomore Courtney Calka (Livonia, Mich.-Stevenson), who has been a tremendous contributor so far this season. Calka finished first overall in the Michigan Open (Sept. 3) with a personal best time of 17:42.0, and she also broke a course record with her first place time of 20:48.2 at the George Dales Invite. According to Parks, the upcoming Adidas Invite will pose as an opportunity to test the sophomore's skills.

“It will be a great test for Courtney Calka who is undefeated so far,” said Parks. “I am anxious to see how she fares against some of the best runners in the region and country."

The Adidas Invitational will take place at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, hosted by the University of Wisconsin. The race is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
