Eagles Take First At Notre Dame Invite

The Eagles clinched their third consecutive first place finish.

– The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team scored 47 points this afternoon at the 55th annual Notre Dame Invitational, marking the third consecutive first place finish for the Eagles.

The Green and White dominated the 16-team gold division, as four EMU runners finished in the top ten. Sophomore Terefe Ejigu (Mount Cook, Wellington-Wellington College, New Zealand) paced the Eagles for the second consecutive week. His second place time of 24:52 also marked a 47 second improvement from his 2009 finish time (25:39) at the invite last season.

Senior captain Matt Hammersmith's (Wolcottville, Mich.-Prairie Heights) solid performance helped him earn a forth place finish, crossing the line at 25:11. Freshman Harry Dixon (Nelson, New Zealand-Nayland College) finished at 25:20, putting him in eighth place. Junior teammate Austin Hendrix (Sylvania, Ohio-Northview) rounded out the top ten with a time of 25:24.

"We took another positive step this week in winning the Notre Dame Gold Division to conclude a productive week of training," said Head Coach John Goodridge. "In the process, we had the opportunity to learn alot from the race from both an individual and team perspective."

The Eagles are back in action on Oct. 8, where they will head to the Michigan Intercollegiate hosted by Oakland University. The race is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
