Women's Cross Country Off To Michigan Intercollegiate

EMU will head to Oakland University for Michigan Intercollegiate

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) —The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team will head to Rochester, Mich. tomorrow, Oct. 8 to compete in the Michigan Intercollegiate hosted by Oakland University.

EMU will look to build off of their successes so far this season. The Green and White just finished up at the Adidas Invitational, where they took 16th place in a very competitive field that featured six nationally top-ranked teams. Sophomore Courtney Calka (Livonia, Mich-Stevenson) continued to lead the Green and White in 2010, finishing tenth with a time of 20:31.

The Eagles also won the George Dales Invitational on Sept. 17, where Calka set a course record at the Pine View Golf Club 6K course (17:42). Morgan Churchwell (Ada, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) had an impressive finish as well, taking third place with a time of 22:08.3.

The Eagles last competed in the Michigan Intercollegiate in the 2008 season, where they took third place out of 19 teams. The Green and White were led by then freshman Rachel Hollinger-Janzen (Goshen, Ind.-Goshen). She finished 11th with a time of 19:20. She was followed by teammate Natalie Webb (Allen Park, Mich.-Woodhaven), who placed 13th, finishing at 19:21.

The Michigan Intercollegiate will be held at the Katke Cousins Golf Course in Rochester, Mich. which is located on the east side of the OU campus. The women's 5K is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
