Senior Ryan Ayala On Titan YouTube
The University of Detroit Mercy men's cross country team got an early look at part of the course that will host the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships in November as the Titans took third among Division I teams at the Michigan Intercollegiate on Friday.
The event, hosted by nearby Oakland University, was held on the Katke Cousins Golf Course, the same venue that will host the NCAA Regionals.
Senior
Ryan Ayala (Coopersville, MI/Coopersville) was the top Titan in as the harrier ran the 8K course in 27:25 to take 33rd place.
“He wanted to run and he put in a good effort today on a tough course,” said head coach
Guy Murray.
Freshman
Sam Felton (St. Joseph, MI/St. Joseph) claimed 69th in 28:18, while junior
Derek Hoerman (Canton, MI/Canton) clocked a 28:55 for 94th place.
Rounding out the Titan crew on the day was back-to-back scorers from sophomore
Chris Smalley (Gladwin, MI/Gladwin) and junior
Erik Westbrook (Fremont, MI/Fremont). Smalley tallied a 29:22 for 103rd, while Westbrook was right behind him in 29:24 for 104th place. Meanwhile, senior
Kevin Wozniak (Dearborn, MI/Edsel Ford) crossed the finish line in 30:26 for 139th.
The Titans will have one more race before the Horizon League Championships as UDM heads to the Keystone State next Saturday to compete in the Penn State Nationals.
