Pair Of Titans Earn HL Cross Country Athlete Of The Week Honors

Horizon League Weekly Release

Off a couple of impressive times on a tough course, two members of the Titans received conference accolades as Titan harriers Ryan Ayala (Coopersville, MI/Coopersville) and Alexandria Vintevoghel (Casco, MI/Marine City) were tabbed the Horizon League's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, announced the HL office on Monday.

Ayala showed his veteran perseverance coming back from a disappointing race two weeks ago at Louisville to lead the Titans at the 8k Michigan Intercollegiate with a time of 27:25. The time was also his best ever at the event, held this year at the Katke Cousins Golf Course in Rochester Hills, as the senior took 33rd overall out of over 200 runners.

The sophomore Vintevoghel shares the honor with Cleveland State's Allison Criane after the pair posted a time of 19:41 in their respective 5k race. Vintevoghel led Detroit at the Michigan Intercollegiate for the fifth time this year as she earned 49th overall.

For Ayala and Vintevoghel, it is the first time in their career that either Titan has received the weekly HL award.

UDM returns to action this Saturday as both the men and women travel to the Keystone State to take part in the Penn State Nationals.
