Courtney Calka Named MAC Runner Of The Week

This marks the second career runner of the week honor for Calka.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University sophomore Courtney Calka (Livonia, Mich.-Stevenson) has been named the Mid-American Conference women's cross country Runner of the Week, the league office announced today, Oct. 13.

The award is the first for Calka this season and the second honor in her career, as she notched her first conference accolade on September 15, 2009.

The Livonia, Mich. native recorded a personal best time at the Michigan Intercollegiate last Friday, Oct. 8 as she clinched first place overall, crossing the line with a time of 17:16.0. Calka has paced the Eagles in every competition this year, and her efforts also mark the third time in 2010 that she has secured the top spot, with first place finishes at the Michigan Open (Sept 3), the George Dales Invite (Sept. 17), and the Michigan Intercollegiate (Oct. 8).

Calka and the Eagles are back in action next Saturday, Oct. 16, for the Penn State National Invite in University Park, Pa.
