UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Detroit's
Pat Liederbach (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) claimed a top 30 spot and the Titans earned 20th in a race full of ranked teams as UDM competed in the Penn State National on Saturday, held at the Blue and White Golf Course.
On the day, the Titan harriers totaled 579 points in the 5.2-mile run, which included the likes of No. 14 Syracuse and No. 23 in host Penn State as well as regionally ranked teams in Villanova, Penn, Maryland and George Mason. Overall, 18 national or regional ranked teams took part in the event.
Liederbach was among the top groups midway through the race and finished in a time of 26:03 for 29th place.
Senior
Alex Harris (Huntington Woods, MI/Shrine) was the second Titan in at 27:32, earning 117th in the process, while freshman
Martin Nelkie (West Branch, MI/Ogemaw Heights) placed 127th in 27:44.
Junior
Bob Radlich's (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland Hill) run of 28:04 gave him 147th and senior
Kevin Smalley (Gladwin, MI/Gladwin) got into the scoring five with a 159th-place finish in 28:25.
Rounding out the UDM runners was senior
Ryan Ayala's (Coopersville, MI/Coopersville) 28:37 for 163rd, freshman
Sam Felton's (St. Joseph, MI/St. Joseph) 29:02 to finish 167th and senior
Brian Greenhoe's (Sand Lake, MI/Grant) 245th-place effort in 29:25.
Detroit will now have two weeks to get ready for the Horizon League Championships, hosted by Loyola at Montrose Beach in Chicago on Saturday, Oct. 30.
