—The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team scored 294 points en route to an 11th place finish this afternoon at the Katke-Cousins Golf Course in the 2010 NCAA Great Lakes Regional hosted by Oakland University.

The Green and White were paced by the reigning 2010 Mid-American Conference Individual Champion, Terefe Ejigu (Mount Cook, Wellington-Wellington College). Ejigu maintained his position in the top five  from the start of the race, but fell back a few positions in the final 800 meters and eventually secured a 15th place finish in 30:41.89. Ejigu also picked up All-Region honors for his impressive performance, good for the second time in his early EMU career. Head Coach John Goodridge was pleased with Ejigu's performance.

"Terefe ran a very inspiring race and was just a moment or two away from a fantastic placing.," said Goodridge. "His effort today speaks well for a bright future."

Senior captain Matt Hammersmith (Wolcottville, Mich.-Prairie Heights) was the next EMU harrier to finish the race, as his time of 31:32.28 was good for 47th place. Not far behind Hammersmith was teammate Austin Hendrix (Sylvania, Ohio-Northview) in 65th place. Hendrix completed the race in 31:58.43.

Freshman Harry Dixon (Nelson, New Zealand-Nayland College) and sophomore James Hughes (Manchester, Mich.-Manchester) took 80th (32:14.23) and 87th (32:21.43), respectively.
