Titans Run Through South Bend

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Lesley Hanna (Exuma, Bahamas, Coakley) and Aviram Campbell (Yale, MI, Yale) each recorded a first place victory to pace Detroit in their first indoor competition. The Titans participated in the Blue and Gold Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.

Hanna surpassed the competition in the 500-meter dash with a first place finish, clocking in at 1:04.05.  Hanna moves to third all-time at Detroit with the performance. The senior also ran the first leg of the men's 4x400 meter relay which finished third. Hanna started the race and passed the baton to Vushaun Landrum (Windsor, ON, Sandwich Secondary)Vince Lefler (Midland, MI , Midland) was the third leg and Kevin Smalley (Gladwin, MI, Gladwin) was the hammer for the Detroit group that finished in 3:23.87.

Landrum was busy for Detroit as he also competed in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. The 60-meter dash was won by Chris Kyles of DePaul, yet Landram and Earnest Cleary (Detroit, MI, Ferndale ) took second and third place. Landrum crossed the finish line at 7.00 while Cleary was there at 7.02. The 200-meter dash had Landrum clocking in at 22.26 at second place with Cleary finishing at fifth in 23.20.

Detroit looked solid in the 60-meter hurdles with two runners placing in the top three. Aviram Campbell (Yale, MI, Yale) beat the field with a time of 8.46. Jarrod Buchanon of Notre Dame took second with a time of 8.51, with Detroit's Lefler close behind in third posting a time of 8.56.

Patrick Liederbach (Petoskey, MI, Petoskey) ran in the 5000-meter dash for the Titans. Lierderbach took second place in the event with a time of 14:38.84.

Off the track, Detroit had top finishers in both the long jump and the triple jump. Ja'Quan Patterson (Ypsilanti, MI, Ypsilanti) and Floyd Hoskin (Gary, IN, Bowman Academy) went two and three in the long jump. Each athlete leaped 21-8 at the Blue and Gold Invite. Hoskin went on to compete in the men's triple jump. Hoskin's second jump was his best as the freshman earned fourth place with a jump of 44-4.75.  The leap put him in fourth all-time at Detroit, and also set a Titan rookie record.
