Women’s Track and Field Competes at Blue and Gold Invitational

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Detroit Titan women's track and field team kicked off the indoor season by competing in the Blue and Gold Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.

Sequoyia Calhoun (Belleville, MI, Belleville) was impressive for Detroit in multiple events. Calhoun finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.57. She also competed in the 200-meter dash alongside Brandee Hart (Oak Park, MI, Berkley) and Nikia Duncan (Murrieta, CA, Murrieta). Calhoun took sixth place with a time of 26.28, while Hart led Detroit with a fifth place finish at 26.20.  Calhoun and Duncan each set new personal records in the race.  Duncan crossed the line in eighth place with a time of 26.84.

Hart also competed in the 60m hurdles for Detroit.  Hart clocked in at 9.56 which moves her fifth all-time.  Katie Taylor (Emmett, MI, Yale) and Amanda Campbell (Lockport, NY, Lockport) also ran for UDM.  Taylor finished in 10.14 good enough for sixth place, while Campbell was right behind in seventh with a time of 10.66.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Calhoun, Tressanique Hampton (Flint, MI, Southwestern Academy ), Susan Kalkstein (New Kensington, PA, Burrell) and Kirstin Mooney (Stirling ON, St. Theresa Catholic) finished fourth with a time of 4:03.84.  The group set a new december record for the Titans.

Hampton also competed in the 1000m run with teammate Mooney.  Hampton was eighth in the race with a time of 3:12.26, while Mooney took sixth place with an impressive time of 3:01.43.

Off the track, Whitney Rogers (Flint, MI, Hamady) represented the Titans in the women's long jump competition. Rogers made the most of her first attempt with a leap of 16-11.25 which landed her in third place.  The jump marks a new indoor personal best.
