Men’s Track and Field Competes at Macomb Opener

WARREN, Mich. -- The men's indoor track and field team was in action on Saturday. Detroit got in their final meet of the month in as the team will be off for the holiday until January.

Earnest Cleary (Detroit, MI, Ferndale ) and Lesley Hanna (Exuma, Bahamas, Coakley) looked good in the 60-meter dash. Cleary won the race in 7.03, while Hanna ended in third (7.16). Hanna also competed in the high jump. The senior won with a height of 6-6.

A large group of Titans were in the 60-meter hurdles finals. Aviram Campbell (Yale, MI, Yale) was the top Titan, finishing in second place with a time of 8.46. Vince Lefler (Midland, MI , Midland) and Steven Ivanics (Dearborn, MI, Divine Child) were close behind taking third and fourth place. Lefler clocked in at 8.55, and Ivanics made his debut with a time of 8.62. Lefler was also involved in the 600-meter run. He won the race with a time of 1:27.57.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Lefler, Taylor Hennrick (Traverse City, MI, St. Francis), Anthony Donald (Waterville, OH, Anthony Wayne) and Chris Smalley (Gladwin, MI, Gladwin) finished in first place. The group clocked in at 3:31.48.

Off the track Floyd Hoskin (Gary, IN, Bowman Academy) and Ja'Quan Patterson (Ypsilanti, MI, Ypsilanti) took the top spots in the triple jump. Hoskin leaped 44-5 for first, while Patterson set a new personal best mark with a jump of 43-6.5 for second.

Eric Lewis (Eastpointe, MI, Fraser) was in action in the men's weight throw. Lewis set a personal record and jumped to tenth all-time at Detroit with a throw of 46-3.25.

“It was a good opening month,” head coach Guy Murray said. “This team will be very competitive you can see that already. I am looking forward to January and really getting things going.”
