Macomb Opener Results
WARREN, Mich. -- The women's indoor track and field team got one more event under their belts before winter break. The Titans competed in the Macomb Opener, there was no team scoring at the meet.
Freshman
Nicole Meisner (Huntington Woods, MI, Berkley) put her name in the Titans record book after her performance in the 60-meter dash. Meisner won the race and moved into seventh place all-time with a time of 7.97. Meisner also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.71. “Nicole showed some potential last week, but this week was a nice break through,” head coach Guy Murray said. “She is really going to help us.”
Sequoyia Calhoun (Belleville, MI, Belleville) led a pack of Titans in the 600-meter run. Calhoun won the race in 1:44.09, while
Olivia Smid (Ann Arbor, MI, Whitmore Lake) took second with a time of 1:45.37.
Shannon Marchant (London, ON, St. Thomas Aquinas) (1:46.84) and
Katie Taylor (Emmett, MI, Yale) (1:51.81) rounded out the top four.
In the 800-meter run it was senior
Kirstin Mooney (Stirling ON, St. Theresa Catholic) leading the way (2:25.26) with teammate
Tressanique Hampton (Flint, MI, Southwestern Academy ) in second with a time of 2:26.13.
Brandee Hart (Oak Park, MI, Berkley) set a personal record in the 60-meter hurdles. Hart finished second clocking in at 9.48.
Sharonda Vesey (Westland, MI, Romulus) (10.16), Smid (10.43), and
Amanda Campbell (Lockport, NY, Lockport) (10.68) rounded out the top five. “Brandee had a great debut last week and continues to build on it,” said Murray. “She is really going to make a positive contribution this year.”
Whitney Rogers (Flint, MI, Hamady) had a nice day for Detroit off the track. Rogers finished second in the long jump with a leap of 17-1. She also competed in the triple jump with
Susan Kalkstein (New Kensington, PA, Burrell). Rogers took second with a jump of 35-1.5, as Kalkstein ended as the winner with a leap of 36-0.
Allyson Koglin (Port Hope, MI, Port Hope) set a new personal best in the weight throw. Koglin finished second with a throw of 42-3.5.
“It was a good December for the women's team,” Murray added. “We are showing the potential we have as a team and everything is pointing to a positive step forward for them this year.”
