Men's Track and Field Head Coach John Goodridge announced the trio today

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Men's Track and Field Head Coach John Goodridge announced today that Clint Allen, Matt Hammersmith and Andrew Meyer have been named captains for the 2010-11 season.

"I am very happy to announce the selection of our 2011 Men's Track and Field team captains," Goodridge said. "Each of these men are very well-liked and respected by the staff and athletes. They have all been making much-appreciated team leadership contributions."

Allen, a national qualifier and All-Mid-American Conference sprinter, is a senior from Muskegon, Mich., and is slated to be one of the best sprinters in the nation since returning to full strength after battling injuries throughout last season. He won MAC Championships last year in the 60m dash (indoor), as well as the 100m dash and the 4x100m relay (both outdoor).

Hammersmith, also a senior, will continue to lead the distance runners in his position as team captain. During the 2009-10 season, Hammersmith paced the Eagles in several races, including his first-place finish in the 2,000m steeplechase at the Jack Shaw Invite and his second-place finish at the EMU Invitational in the 3,000m steeplechase during. He was also able to score for the Eagles in the same event during the Outdoor MAC Championships.

Meyer, also a senior, has been an achor in the field for the Eagles, contributing and showing major improvements since joining the team as a freshman in the 2008-09 season. He consistently finished in the top three for the Eagles during last season, battling for the top spot at numerous meets with his NCAA Qualifying teammate Gerald Gersham.

The Eagles' season starts Friday, Jan. 8, 2011, as the team starts with the annual EMU Open at Bowen Field House.
