Men's Cross Country Lands Four On Academic All-MAC Squad

Ejigu, Hammersmith, Hendrix, and Pfeiffer are honored

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Four members of the Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team have been named to the 2010 Mid-American Conference Cross Country All-Academic squad, the league office announced Monday, Jan. 3.

Terefe Ejigu, Matt Hammersmith, Austin Hendrix, and Andrew Pfeiffer were all honored this season.

Ejigu, a 3.22 GPA in international affairs, paced the Eagles in every race this season, including a first-place finish at the 2010 MAC Championships to help lead EMU to its 15th conference title. He also earned All-MAC honors and was the MAC Individual Champion with a time of 24:08 at the Conference Championships. Ejigu later garnered All-Region accolades for his 15th place, 30:41.89 performance at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.

Senior captain Hammersmith boasts a 3.85 GPA while majoring in physical education. Hammersmith finished in fourth place with a season best 25:11 at the Notre Dame Invitational which featured 137 athletes. He also finished in 32:07 for third place at the Western Ontario International, and was second best on the team with his 37th place, 26:08 efforts at the Penn State Invitational.

Hendrix holds a 3.6 GPA in marketing and raced in five of the Eagles' eight meets this season. He was 54th of 266 with his time of 26:24 to help the Eagles to a sixth place team finish at the highly competitive Penn State Invitational. Hendrix also posted a 15th place, 25:14.5 performance at the 2010 MAC Cross Country Championships.

Pfeiffer, a junior philosophy major with a 3.69 GPA, led the Eagles at the Detroit Titan Invitational with his fifth place finish time of 20:51.00. The Clarence, N.Y. native also helped the Green and White with a 20th place finish time of 25:23.0 at the Mid-American Cross Country Championships.
