Kevin Lanier had a day full of personal bests and hurdler
Vanier Joseph picked up where he finished off last season, as the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team put together a solid all-around performance in the team's season-opening EMU Invitational, Saturday, Jan. 8, at Bowen Fieldhouse in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Lanier, who broke the school's record for points in the heptathlon less than a month ago, hit his personal best marks in the long jump with a winning leap of 24-02.50 and a shot put toss of 40-03.50. Lanier also had a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles in the preliminaries with a time of 8.08, but was disqualified in the finals due to a false start.
His teammate and reigning Mid-American Conference Champion won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 7.93. Newcomer
Brycen Spratling also had a solid debut, winning the 600-meter run with a time of 1:20.22.
Sophomore Joseph Tesner scored the other Eagles win on the day as he cleared a height of 15-05.00 in the pole vault.
“Today's meet enabled our staff and athletes to evaluate fitness coming off the semester break and for a large group of athletes it was their first opportunity to wear the EMU uniform,” said EMU Head Coach
John Goodridge.
Eastern will return to competition in six days, Friday, Jan. 14, when the team heads to Mount Pleasant, Mich. for the Triangular Meet.
