Two Titans Finish First at GaREAT Collegiate Open

GENEVA, Ohio – Sequoyia Calhoun (Belleville, MI, Belleville) and Kirstin Mooney (Stirling ON, St. Theresa Catholic) each recorded first place victories over the weekend. Calhoun ran past the competition in the 400-meter dash, while Mooney moved up the Titan Top 10 list in the 800-meter run.

Mooney clocked a time of 2:17.06 in the 800-meter run. She is now fifth all-time on the Titan Top 10. Teammate Tressanique Hampton (Flint, MI, Southwestern Academy ) just missed finishing in the top ten at the meet as her time of 2:23.31 landed her in 12th place.

Calhoun led the Titans in the 400-meter dash. The senior battled against 80 other student-athletes and ended up with the victory and a new UDM indoor record clocking in at 57.63. Calhoun and Mooney joined forces in the 4x400 meter relay helping the Titans finish in third place. Hampton and Olivia Smid (Ann Arbor, MI, Whitmore Lake) rounded out the team that finished in 3:59.34.

Brandee Hart (Oak Park, MI, Berkley) was impressive in the 200-meter dash. The freshman set a new personal record with a seventh place finish in the finals with a time of 26.04. Calhoun, Nicole Meisner (Huntington Woods, MI, Berkley) (26.73), Susan Kalkstein (New Kensington, PA, Burrell) (27.51), and Sharonda Vesey (Westland, MI, Romulus) (28.47) also ran the 200m. Calhoun finished 12th with a time of 26.19.

Hart and Vesey also competed in the 60-meter hurdles. Hart finished second in her heat with a time of 9.33, while Vesey crossed the line at 9.87.

Megan Miller (Zanesville, OH, Zanesville) and Smid also ran well in the 400-meter dash. Miller finished in 15th with a time of 1:00.35, while Smid took 24th place (1:01.71).

The distance medley relay team of Rachel Hofsess (Milford, MI, Milford), Hampton, Mooney, and Alexandria Vintevoghel (Casco, MI, Marine City) placed eighth clocking in at 12:43.49

Off the track, Stephanie Cuniberti (Macomb, MI, Dakota) took a ninth place finish in the high jump. The freshman cleared 5-1. Detroit also received a strong performance in the long jump as Whitney Rogers (Flint, MI, Hamady) earned sixth place with a leap of 16-5.

Kayla Zauner (Fort Gratiot, MI, Port Huron Northern) came up with her best performance as a Titan in the pole vault. She cleared 9-6.25 to finish in eighth place.

Detroit's throwers competed in the Cardinal, a meet held in University Center, Michigan. Allyson Koglin (Port Hope, MI, Port Hope) set a new personal record in the weight throw (13.12m) and in the shot put (11.64m). Stephanie Blanchard also set a PR in the shot put (10.95m).
