Hanna Earns Runner of the Week Honor

INDIANAPOLIS -- Senior Lesley Hanna (Exuma, Bahamas, Coakley) has been recognized as the Horizon League men's indoor track and field runner of the week as announced by the league office on Feb. 1. Hanna posted two of the top times in the league this season at the GaREAT Collegiate Open this past weekend.

Hanna set a new Detroit indoor record in the 200-meter dash, he won the 400-meter dash, and he was a part of the 4x400m relay team that set the league's fastest time of the season.

The Titans got a chance to compete at the GaREAT Sports Complex this weekend. This complex will host the 2011 Horizon League Championships later this month (Feb. 26-27). Hanna ran well as his time of 21.83 in the 200-meter dash placed him in third out of 88 competitors.

Hanna used a strong effort to win the 400-meter dash in a time of 48.04, the best time in the Horizon League yet this season. He has ran the 400m well all year as this race marked his third consecutive win in the event. He also helped Detroit's 4x400 meter relay team win their race with a time of 3:18.96. Joe Raffin (Valparaiso, IN, Chesterton)Vince Lefler (Midland, MI , Midland), and Matt Mahler (Thorold, ON, Denis Morris Catholic) rounded out the group.

The senior from the Bahamas competed in four events as he also served as a member of the distance medley relay team. The team of Hanna, Mahler, Chris Smalley (Gladwin, MI, Gladwin), and Alex Harris (Huntington Woods, MI, Shrine) finished in third place with a time of 10:09.91. They moved into ninth all-time on the Titan Top 10 list.

The Titans will return to action next weekend. Some student-athletes will compete at the GVSU Big Meet on Friday, Feb. 11, while some others will head to the Windsor Team Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 12.
