Hendrix, Ejigu Win Distance Races at Meyo

Freshman Brycen Spratling also set a new standard this season in the MAC

– The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field squad finished the weekend at the Meyo Invitational at the University of Notre in Dame in South Bend, Ind., Saturday, Feb. 5.

Newcomer Brycen Spratling posted a Mid-American Conference-best time of 46.48 for a second-place finish. Spratling ran in the seeded race due to a prequalifying time earlier this season. Another freshman, Kyle Gill, finished ninth in the seeded portion with a time of 49.26.

With a time of 4:09.78, Austin Hendrix won the unseeded mile run while Terefe Ejigu and Cole Sanseverino posted the top two times in the MAC in the 3,000-meter run during the 3,000-meter Ryan Shay Run (invite only). Ejigu took first-place with his time of 8:08.58, while Sanseverino placed 10th with a time of 8:17.62. In the unseeded 800-meter run, Joshua George had another top-five finish for the Green and White as his time of 1:53.24 held strong for the number five spot.

Clint Allen finished third in the 60-meter dash after qualifying for the finals during day one of the event. Allen's final time was 6.76. He also competed in the seeded 200-meter dash, posting a fifth-place finish. Jairus Saunders had a time of 21.92 in the same event for a seventh-place finish. Also on the track, the 4x400-meter quartet finished sixth, while the distance medley relay team was fifth.

In the field, Andrew Meyer posted 10th and 11th place finishes, respectively, in the shot put and the weight throw. His weight throw was a season-best for the senior. Freshman Heritier Ndele also placed ninth in the triple jump with a leap of 46-02.00.
