ALLENDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – On the first day of the Grand Valley State University Big Meet,
Kevin Lanier was a standout performer for the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team as the group competed at the Michigan Classic, Friday, Feb. 11, in Allendale, Mich.
After the first four events, Lanier leads the pack with a score of 2,965, taking first-place in two events (60-meter dash and high jump) and second-place in the other two events (long jump and shot put).
**The final three events were completed on Day Two of the GVSU Big Meet, Saturday, Feb. 12. Lanier, who set a track record at Grand Valley State University meet in Dec. 2010, won the event with a score of 5,175, just 49 points shy of his record. In the 60-meter dash, Lanier took first-place with a time of 8.25. He also finished eighth in the 1,000-meter run and 10th in the pole vault to secure the win.
Terefe Ejigu won the mile run for the second straight week, this time doing so in two seconds more than he did at the Meyo Invite, finishing today with a time of 4:04.88.
In the 600-meter run,
Kyle Fortin posted a time of 1:22.90 for a fifth-place finish, while
Andrew Meyer had a shot put throw of 55-03.75, good for seventh overall.
At the 60-meter distance,
Vanier Joseph finished first in the hurdles during the preliminary run, but placed 16th in the finals.
Clint Allen ran in the dash, placing second in the prelims but did not race in the finals.
The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 12, as the team competes in the second day of the event.
