GVSU Big Meet Results

ALLENDALE, MICH. -- The Detroit Titan men's track and field team completed day one of the GVSU Big Meet on Friday (Feb.11) in the Laker Turf Building. The meet has over 1,800 athletes with teams competing from all over the Midwest, including Michigan, Michigan State, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Purdue, Western Kentucky and Valparaiso.

Lesley Hanna (Exuma, Bahamas, Coakley) ran a great time in the 400-meter dash. The senior clocked in at 47.85 which landed him in third place at the event. Hanna won his heat and nearly set the indoor 400m record set by Jack Szczepaniuk. The record is 47.83, which Hanna nearly broke in 2009 with his time of 47.84. This season he seems to be on pace to threaten the record once again with a time of 47.85 at GVSU. Hanna's other third place finish came in the 200-meter dash. Hanna nearly missed second place with a time of 21.89.

Also competing in the 400-meter dash was sophomore Joe Raffin (Valparaiso, IN, Chesterton). Raffin was slowed down due to a collision at turn two and therefore finished the race in 49.89.

Vushaun Landrum (Windsor, ON, Sandwich Secondary) made it to the 60-meter dash finals after running a 7.07 in the prelims. He placed 14th overall in the finals with a time of 7.04.

Patrick Liederbach (Petoskey, MI, Petoskey) returned to the track for Detroit to run in the 3000-meter run. The senior finished in 8:49.89. Teammate Matt Mahler (Thorold, ON, Denis Morris Catholic) placed 24th in the 800-meter run. He crossed the line at 1:54.60.

In the 5000-meter run it was Sam Felton (St. Joseph, MI, St. Joseph) of Detroit crossing the line in 33rd place. Felton ran a new personal-best clocking in at 15:59.22. Erik Westbrook (Fremont, MI, Fremont) was also in action for the 5000m. He ended the day with a 45th place finish running in 16:18.32.

Day two of the GVSU Big Meet featured Ryan Ayala (Coopersville, MI, Coopersville) and Alex Harris (Huntington Woods, MI, Shrine) running in the 3000-meter run.  Harris earned an eighth place finish for the Titans finishing in a time of 8:40.60. Ayala finished in 17th place crossing the line at 8:45.63.
