ANN ARBOR -- The women's track and field team competed at the Silverston Invite this Saturday at Michigan. The invite served as the last tune-up for Detroit as the team will compete in the Horizon League Championships next weekend.
Kirstin Mooney (Stirling ON, St. Theresa Catholic) set a Detroit Titan all-time record in the 600-meter run. Mooney passed Andrea Karl for the top spot with a time of 1:35.66. Karl's time was set during the 2005 season (1:37.46).
A group of Titans competed in the 400-meter dash.
Megan Miller (Zanesville, OH, Zanesville) led the way with a time of 1:00.56.
Brandee Hart (Oak Park, MI, Berkley) set a personal-best finishing the race at 1:00.67.
Olivia Smid (Ann Arbor, MI, Whitmore Lake) (1:02.60),
Katie Taylor (Emmett, MI, Yale) (1:04.77),
Lindsay Smetzler (Clyde, OH, Clyde) (1:05.80) and
Elizabeth Arroyo ( Dearborn Heights, MI, Divine Child) (1:05.93) rounded out the group.
Sharonda Vesey (Westland, MI, Romulus) won her heat with a time of 9.78 in the 60-meter hurdles. With the hurdles off the track,
Nikia Duncan (Murrieta, CA, Murrieta) set a personal-record in the 60-meter dash. The sophomore clocked in at 8.02.
Taylor Ragland (Columbus, OH, Whitehall-Yearling) also ran a season-best 8.25 in the 60m.
Katrina Oberski (Clyde, MI, Port Huron ) also set a personal record for Detroit. Oberski set her PR in the mile with a time of 5:34.20.
Whitney Rogers (Flint, MI, Hamady) had the best distance in the first flight of the long jump (17-1.25).
Susan Kalkstein (New Kensington, PA, Burrell) led Detroit in the triple jump. Kalkstein leaped 37-7.75 landing her in fifth place.
The Titans will compete in the Horizon League Championships next weekend (Feb. 26-27) at the GaREAT Sports Complex located in Geneva, Ohio. Detroit previously ran on the track back on January 28 at the GaREAT Collegiate Open.
