GENEVA, Ohio – Both the men's and women's track and field teams will be in action this weekend at the GaREAT Sports Complex to compete in the 2011 Horizon League Indoor Championships. The meet will begin on Saturday, February 26 at 9:00 a.m.

Expectations are high for the men's team as a talented senior class will help Detroit try to improve on their fourth place finish from a year ago. Earnest Cleary (Detroit, MI, Ferndale ) will try to repeat as the fastest man in the Horizon League with an excellent performance in the 60-meter dash. Teammate Vushaun Landrum (Windsor, ON, Sandwich Secondary) enters the 60-meter dash as one of the favorites to possibly knock off Cleary as the Titans took first and second place a year ago in this event. Cleary and Landrum currently hold the third and fourth fastest 60m times in the Horizon League.

Detroit will also look for Lesley Hanna (Exuma, Bahamas, Coakley) to continue his impressive 2010-11 indoor campaign with a positive outing in Geneva. Hanna has the ability to help the Titans in many ways. He flies around the track in the 400-meter dash, and he can also compete at a high level in the 200-meter dash. He is an important part of the 4x400-meter relay team, and off the track he will likely compete in the high jump. Hanna holds the top HL time in the 200m (21:83) and in the 400m (47.85).

Patrick Liederbach (Petoskey, MI, Petoskey) and Matt Mahler (Thorold, ON, Denis Morris Catholic) will represent Detroit in the mid-distance races. Mahler has put together a great indoor season, especially in the 800-meter run where he currently holds the third fastest time in the league (1:53.31). Liederbach has also ran well as the senior will look to improve on his third-place showing in the 3,000-meter run from a year ago.

Sophomores Taylor Hennrick (Traverse City, MI, St. Francis) and Anthony Donald (Waterville, OH, Anthony Wayne) will get the meet started for Detroit in the heptathlon. Both athletes had a career-day when they competed in the pentathlon at the Windsor Team Challenge. Hennrick set a new Detroit record that day with 3,122 points, while Donald moved to number two on the Titan Top 10 list with 3,022 points.

The women's team will be trying to improve on their seventh place finish from a year ago. Senior Sequoyia Calhoun (Belleville, MI, Belleville) has a great chance to grab some points for Detroit as she holds the fastest 400-meter time in the Horizon League at 56.74. Fellow senior Megan Miller (Zanesville, OH, Zanesville) will also be in contention for scoring in the 400m as she placed sixth in the event a year ago.

Kirstin Mooney (Stirling ON, St. Theresa Catholic) will look to put up some points for Detroit in the 800-meter run. Mooney has recorded the third fastest time in that event up to date (2:15.90).

The women's and men's team will compete at a high-level in both the distance medley relay, and the 4x400-meter relay. The women's distance medley relay team holds the second-best time in the league (12:43.49), and the third-best time in the 4x400m (3:59.34). On the men's side, Detroit has the second-best 4x400-meter relay time (3:18.96), and the best time in the DMR at 10:09.91.
