Hanna Sets Two Detroit Records After Day One

Day One Results

GENEVA, Ohio – The men's track and field team recorded 23 points on Saturday to end day one in a tie for second place. Milwaukee leads the way with 43.50 points. Day two of the 2011 Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championships will continue tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.

The distance medley relay team of Matt Mahler (Thorold, ON, Denis Morris Catholic)Joe Raffin (Valparaiso, IN, Chesterton)Chris Smalley (Gladwin, MI, Gladwin), and Patrick Liederbach (Petoskey, MI, Petoskey) set a school record with a time of 9:57.48. The win gave Detroit 10 of their 23 points.

Ja'Quan Patterson (Ypsilanti, MI, Ypsilanti) did his part by recording eight points for Detroit with a solid effort in the long jump. Patterson leaped 23-2.50 to place second in the event. Teammate Floyd Hoskin (Gary, IN, Bowman Academy) also got into the action with a fourth place finish with a jump of 22-5.75. Patterson moves to fourth on the Titan Top 10 list, while Hoskin slides into seventh.

Freshman Eric Lewis (Eastpointe, MI, Fraser) earned a point for Detroit with a toss of 51-4.25 in the weight throw. He moves to seventh on the Titan Top 10 list with the throw.

Lesley Hanna (Exuma, Bahamas, Coakley)set two Detroit school records on Saturday. The senior recorded the best time in the 200-meter dash, breaking his own record clocking in at 21.68. Vushaun Landrum (Windsor, ON, Sandwich Secondary) also qualified in the 200m with a time of 22.05. Hanna entered Saturday as the favorite to win the 400-meter dash and he didn't disappoint with a Detroit record time of 47.68. Raffin also ran well, as he recorded a PR, which was the fourth best time of the day (49.22). Raffin moves to ninth on the Titan Top 10 list.

Earnest Cleary (Detroit, MI, Ferndale) posted a time of 6.88 in the 60-meter dash to qualify for the finals tomorrow. Cleary shared that time with Landrum who also clocked a 6.88 in the second heat. Landrum is now number two on the Titan Top 10 list.

Mahler will be in the finals of the 800-meter run. Mahler ran a 1:54.88 in the prelims. It went down as the sixth best time. Aviram Campbell (Yale, MI, Yale)also qualified for the finals with an 8.46 time in the 60-meter hurdles.

Alex Harris (Huntington Woods, MI, Shrine) nearly scored for Detroit in the 5000-meter run. Harris placed seventh and set a personal record with a time of 14:56.84.

Taylor Hennrick (Traverse City, MI, St. Francis) and Anthony Donald (Waterville, OH, Anthony Wayne) represented the Titans in the heptathlon. Hennrick won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.32 (PR), and took fifth in the shot put (32-11.75). Donald also came up with a PR in the 60m with a time of 7.50. His best finish came in the long jump (20-7.25, PR). Hennrick is 138 points ahead of his day one score from a year ago, and Donald is 73 points ahead of his 2010 day one mark.
