Titans Travel to Notre Dame for Alex Wilson Invite

Live Flowtrack Coverage

The Detroit Titan men's track and field team will have three athletes in action over the weekend. Lesley Hanna (Exuma, Bahamas, Coakley) will compete in the 400-meter dash, while Patrick Liederbach (Petoskey, MI, Petoskey) and Matt Mahler (Thorold, ON, Denis Morris Catholic) will run the mile at the Alex Wilson Invitational.

The Alex Wilson Invite will begin on Friday, March 4 at 5:00 p.m. The action will continue Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. The Titans considered having a distance medley relay team compete on Friday, but the final decision was to focus on Saturday's individual events.

Hanna enters the weekend ranked 31st nationally in the 400-meter dash. The senior will look to lower his time to reach the NCAA Indoor Championships. “I think LJ will need to be ranked in the top 15 for a real chance at the NCAA's,” head coach Guy Murray said. “He would join some elite company as Paul Caraballo and Kim Jess are the only athletes to have hit provisional marks for us during the indoor season.”

Liederbach will be running for the UDM record in the mile. His best time in 2010 was just .01 off the record held by Corey Stedman (4:10.3). Liederbach recently ran a 4:10 split as the anchor leg of the distance medley relay team, proving that he is once again on pace to compete for the record.

Mahler will be making his season-debut in the mile. Based on his year, Coach Murray believes that he should be in range of a 4:10 mile as well.
