Men’s Track and Field Wins Dual vs. Oakland

DETROIT – The men's track and field team recorded 106 points on Saturday afternoon to win the dual. Patrick Liederbach, Lesley Hanna, and Ja'Quan Patterson all set records at the meet.

Patrick Liederbach set a new meet and stadium record in the mile to win the race with a time of 4:09.81. That time broke the old record set by 2008 Olympian and NCAA Champion Nate Brannen who ran 4:11.72 in 2009. Liederbach also set the fastest outdoor mile time in Detroit track and field history.

Fellow senior Lesley Hanna set a meet and stadium record in the 200-meter dash. Hanna clocked in at 21.97 taking first place over teammate Vushaun Landrum who finished second (22.47). Hanna broke the 2009 record held by Earnest Cleary (22.18).

Ja'Quan Patterson also set a meet and stadium record in the triple jump. Patterson's leap of 43-7.75 broke the record that he set a year ago. Floyd Hoskin also did well in the triple jump. Hoskin made a jump of 42-8 to take second place.

The final record for Detroit came in the last event of the day. The 4x400 meter relay team of Joe Raffin, Aviram Campbell, Anthony Donald, and Lesley Hanna posted a time of 3:22.52 to take the win.

Senior Earnest Cleary won the 100-meter dash at the dual meet (12.70). Teammate Charles Anthony placed second with a time of 11.38.

Another Detroit senior took top honors in the 800-meter run. Matt Mahler led the way with a time of 1:55.99. Chris Smalley held off Andy Baurhenn for second place with a time of 1:58.79.

Off the track, freshman Eric Lewis won the hammer throw, shot put, and discus throw at the dual. Lewis took down Anthony Gallegos in the hammer with a toss of 154-0. The shot put belonged to Lewis with a mark of 42-3.25, and the third win of the day came in the discus with a distance of 141-10.

Detroit took first and second place in the long jump event with strong efforts from Hoskin and Patterson. Hoskin won the event with a jump of 21-8.25. Patterson was close behind in second with a distance of 21-5.50.

Aviram Campbell scored for Detroit in the 110-meter hurdles. Campbell took second place with a time of 15.22. The Titans got another second place finish in the 400-meter dash. Joe Raffin just missed out on first place with a time of 49.30. Oakland's Kyle Wilson won the race with a time of 49.26.

Anthony Donald and Vince Lefler ran well for Detroit in the 400-meter hurdles. Donald ended the race in second place with a time of 55.69, while Lefler took third place finishing in 55.74.
