Hennrick Sets New School Record in Decathlon

MIDLAND, Mich. – Sophomore Taylor Hennrick has set a new Titan record in the decathlon with 5,864 points. Hennrick won three events on Thursday, and three events on Friday to break his old record of 5,054 points.

Hennrick finished second overall in the decathlon at the 2011 Family and Friends Meet hosted by Northwood University. Justin Fawley won the event with 5,900 points.

On Thursday, Hennrick got off to a good start by winning the 100-meter dash with a personal best time of 11.36. He also took top honors in the shot put with a personal record of 35-0.25. His third PR of the day came in the 400-meter dash. Hennrick won the event by crossing the finish line in 51.51.

Hennrick took second in the long jump with a leap of 20-7. He also competed in the high jump on Thursday. Hennrick finished in sixth by clearing 5-3.25.

On Friday, Hennrick came back strong with a first place finish in the 110-meter hurdles clocking in at 15.29 (PR). His discus throw of 89-09 put him in the middle of the pack with a third place finish, and he gained 418 points in the pole vault by clearing 10-8.

Hennrick finished the day strong by winning the final two events. He edged Fawley in the javelin with a personal best throw of 129-07, and in the 1500-meter run it was Hennrick winning by six seconds over second place finisher Steve Reives.
