Titans Set School Record at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – The women's track and field team was in action over the weekend. The relay team of Nikia Duncan, Nicole Meisner, Sequoyia Calhoun, and Kirstin Mooney set a school record in the 1600 sprint medley at the Drake Relays.

The Titans finished fifth in the first heat and 19th overall in the 1600 sprint medley relay. They set the school record by finishing in 4:03.23. “We got a good start from Nikia and Nicole,” Head Coach Guy Murray said. “Sequoyia provided us with a big carry and made the handoff with the lead.”

Other Titans competed in the Gina Relays this weekend. The meet was hosted by Hillsdale College. Katrina Oberski led Detroit at this meet with a solid effort in the 5000-meter run placing 17th overall. Oberski clocked in at 18:56.84. Torrie Eger also competed in the 5000m. She placed 59th with a time of 20:30.69.

Rachel Hofsess and Sarah Martinez competed in the 1500-meter run for the Titans. Hofsess took 44th (5:12.09) while Martinez was 45th (5:15.21).

Brandee Hart finished the 100-meter hurdles in 15th place. The freshman clocked in at 15.40

The Titans will return to action next weekend when they travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to compete in the 2011 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  The meet will begin on Friday, May 6.
