Track and Field Ends Relay Weekend

DES MOINES, Iowa – The men's track and field team had athletes split between two different meets over the weekend. Part of the team competed at the Drake Relays, while a majority took part in the Gina Relays.

The 1600 sprint medley relay team of Vushaun Landrum, Earnest Cleary, Lesley Hanna, and Matt Mahler won the opening heat at the Drake Relays. Detroit placed 10th overall with a time of 3:26.63.

Detroit had three top performers in the 110-meter hurdles at the Hillsdale College Gina Relays. Aviram Campbell placed third overall with a time of 14.88. Steven Ivanics placed fifth (15.11), and Taylor Hennrick rounded out the trio by placing eighth (15.31).

Hennrick also ran in the 100-meter dash. He placed 38th overall with a time of 11.47. Teammate Deonte Osayande came in at 47th (11.67).

Joe Raffin placed 10th in the 400-meter dash. He crossed the finish line at 49.74. Raffin also competed in the 200-meter dash (43rd – 23.22).

Vince Lefler represented the Titans in the 400-meter hurdles. Lefler placed ninth overall with a time of 54.49. Bryan Brooks was also in action for Detroit. He took 28th place (59.40).

Rounding out the effort at Hillsdale was Chris Smalley in the 800-meter run. He placed 12th with a time of 1:57.61.

The Titans will return to action next weekend when they travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to compete in the 2011 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The meet will begin on Friday, May 6.
