Men’s Track and Field Finishes 4th at HL Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – The Detroit Titan men's track and field team placed fourth at the 2011 Outdoor Track and Field Horizon League Championships. Vushaun Landrum set a school record in the 100-meter dash posting a time of 10.63.

Lesley Hanna just missed out on becoming a two-time Horizon League champion as he was edged in the 200-meter dash finals. Hanna took second place with a time of 21.52. Michael Davis won the event with a time of 21.50. After posting the fastest preliminary time on Saturday, Hanna returned to the track to win the 400-meter dash final on Sunday. He posted a time of 47.28. Teammate Joe Raffin placed seventh in the finals (49.60).

The Titans had three athletes in the 100-meter dash finals. Vushaun Landrum officially became the fastest man in the Horizon League by winning the event with a UDM record time of 10.63. Earnest Cleary and Charles Anthony rounded out the group. Cleary finished sixth (10.94), while freshman Charles Anthony ended up in seventh place (11.03).

Detroit used the team of Landrum, Hanna, Anthony, and Cleary in the 4x100 meter relay to set a UDM record. This group placed second overall with a time of 41.45. The 4x400 meter relay team of Raffin, Lefler, Mahler, and Hanna took third place (3:17.59).

Aviram Campbell performed well for Detroit in the 110-meter hurdle finals. Campbell placed second overall with a time of 14.67. Campbell and Vince Lefler were both in action for the 400-meter hurdle finals. Lefler led the way with a third place finish (53.65 - PR), while Campbell took fifth (54.32).

Matt Mahler placed fifth in the 800-meter run finals (1:53.00). Mahler just made the cut as he was the last qualifier with a time of 1:54.46 on Saturday. Mahler also placed fifth in the 1500-meter run. The senior crossed the finish line in 3:54.16. Bob Radlich, Chris Smalley and Patrick Liederbach also competed in the 1500-meter run. Radlich finished in ninth (4:02.87 - PR), Smalley took 13th (4:09.30), and Liederbach ended in 14th (4:11.14).

Brian Greenhoe and Edwin Gay finished back-to-back in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Greenhoe finished ninth (10:04.92) while Gay was close behind in 10th (10:06.16).

Ja'Quan Patterson posted a third place finish for Detroit in the long jump (22-7.25). Vushaun Landrum also competed in the event. He took sixth place (21-4.75). Patterson was the top Detroit performer in the triple jump. He finished fifth overall with a personal record leap of 46-3.25.
