DETROIT – The men's track and field team will compete in the Louisville Cardinal Twilight on Friday afternoon. A limited number of athletes will make the trip in hopes to move on to the NCAA Preliminary Round.
Aviram Campbell and
Taylor Hennrick will compete in the 110-meter hurdles for Detroit. Hennrick will bounce back and join
Anthony Donald in the 400-meter hurdles as well. Other Titans making the trip to Louisville include
Matt Mahler who will run the 800-meter run and
Bob Radlich who will represent Detroit in the 1500.
“We are taking a group that has a bit more left in the tank,” Head Coach Guy Murray said. “This will be a good meet with teams looking for the last chance to earn spots in the NCAA Preliminary Round.”
Aviram Campbell ran very well last week at the 2011 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He was just .01 from breaking a UDM record in the 110-meter hurdles. Campbell finished second overall with a time of 14.67.
Taylor Hennrick posted his best 110-meter hurdle time at the Northwood Open. He posted the ninth fastest time in the Horizon League clocking in at 15.29. Donald will join Hennrick in the 400-meter hurdles. Donald's season-best time is 54.48, while Hennrick is slightly behind at 55.42.
Matt Mahler will try to trim down his time in the 800-meter run. Mahler posted his best time in the event last weekend at the Horizon League Championships. He placed fifth overall with a time of 1:53.00.
Bob Radlich will also be in action for Detroit. His season-best time in the 1500-meter run is 4:02.87.
“We had a very good season and for the most part we finished strong last week,” Murray said. “I hope these guys can add to the great season with some nice PR's.”
One Titan that will definitely be competing in the NCAA Preliminary Round is
Lesley Hanna. Hanna's best time in the 200-meter dash came at the Beach Invite when he clocked in at 21.07. His season-best 400-meter time occurred at the 53rd Annual Mt. SAC Relays on April 14. Hanna recorded the top time in the league with a time of 46.72. His time of 46.72 is currently the 52nd fastest time in the nation. He is ranked 26th in the East Region. Hanna's 200-meter dash time is 71st in the nation and 37th in the region.
“The good news for us is that LJ is in a solid position and doesn't need to compete,” Murray said. “He can stay back and focus on getting ready for his NCAA effort.”
