Men’s Track and Field Prepares for Windsor Open

Division I preliminary field released

DETROIT – Members of the Detroit Titan men's track and field team will compete in the 2011 Windsor Open on Saturday, May 21. The University of Windsor Stadium will be the hosting site. This top-notch facility has hosted the 2005 Pan American Junior Championships, the 2007 Canadian Championships, and the 2008 Olympic Trials.

Five runners and two throwers will be in action for Detroit. Charles Anthony will help kick off the meet by competing in the 100-meter dash at 6:40 p.m. Anthony will also compete in the 200-meter dash (8:15 p.m. start). Both Aviram Campbell and Taylor Hennrick will compete in the 110-meter hurdles (7:10 p.m. start) while Anthony Donald will take part in the 400-meter hurdles (8:55 p.m. start).

Senior Lesley Hanna will compete in the 400-meter dash (7:50 p.m. start). “We decided to run LJ in a tune up for the NCAA Preliminary Round,” Head Coach Guy Murray said. “The weather is supposed to hold up for us so it will be a good opportunity for him to prepare.”

Hanna's season-best 400-meter dash time occurred at the 53rd Annual Mt. SAC Relays on April 14. Hanna recorded the top time in the Horizon League crossing the finish line in 46.72. The Division I preliminary field was officially released on Thursday, May 19. Hanna will compete in the 400-meter dash in the East region which will be hosted by Indiana in Bloomington, Ind. The Preliminary Championship Competitions will be held from May 26-28

Hanna holds the 22nd best time in the East region. The top time belongs to Kirani James of Alabama. The sophomore clocked in at 44.86. Hanna also recorded a qualifying time in the 200-meter dash, yet he chose not to compete.

Eric Lewis and Jeff Sherman will represent the Titans in the hammer throw (6:30 p.m. start). Lewis will throw the 6kg hammer in an effort to qualify for USA Juniors. The 6kg hammer is the lighter international implement for the junior athletes that are under 20 years of age. Sherman will throw the regular hammer as he is 20 years old. He will also compete in the shot put (8:00 p.m. start).
