Campbell Nearly Sets School Record in 110-Meter Hurdles

WINDSOR – Members of the men's track and field team competed in the 2011 Windsor Open on Saturday afternoon. Lesley Hanna hit the track to prepare for the NCAA Preliminary Round next weekend, while Aviram Campbell nearly set a school mark in the 110-meter hurdles.

Senior Lesley Hanna placed fourth overall in the 400-meter dash at the Windsor Open. He crossed the finish line at 48.94.

Taylor Hennrick also recorded a fourth place finish for the Titans. Hennrick recorded a time of 15.31 in the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles and ended the day with a personal record time of 15.14 in the finals.

Aviram Campbell also competed in the 110-meter hurdles. Campbell nearly set a school record as he placed second overall with a time of 14.68 after running a 14.69 in the preliminaries.  Tom Grant will hang on as the record holder.  He ran the 110-meter hurdles in 14.66 during the 2004 season.

Charles Anthony placed 14th in the 100-meter dash for Detroit. He crossed the finish line at 11.06. Anthony was also in action during the 200-meter dash. He finished 18th overall with a time of 22.63.

Off the track, freshman Jeff Sherman placed fourth in the shot put and third in the hammer throw. Sherman's third throw was his best of the day in the shot put (12.67m / 41-7). His best hammer throw of the day came on his second attempt (41.85m / 137-3).

Eric Lewis threw the 6kg hammer on Saturday in attempt to qualify for the USA Junior Nationals.  He reached his goal by recording a distance of 184-7 (56.26m) which is a USATF Junior Qualifying Mark.

The 2011 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held from Thursday, June 23 to Saturday, June 25.
